Why give to OjaiCARES?

In 2014, OjaiCARES, the only cancer resource center located in Ojai, CA opened its doors to welcome and provide services to all people, their families and caregivers dealing with cancer. As OjaiCARES client, Jennifer, describes – the need for support and resources to make informed decisions is essential on the journey with cancer.

As a Navigation Center, we are grateful for our founding members and donor friends for contributions that have sustained our worthwhile work. Because of the financial support received, we have been able to help hundreds of individuals navigate through the many challenges associated with a cancer diagnosis, the treatment, recovery and sadly sometimes even, recurrence and end of life planning. Your gift ensures that our clients are not alone as they go through any of these stages.

OjaiCARES remains relevant in a changing medical arena because of our forward-looking ideas, services, and programs that address the unique needs of our clients. One of the many services highly regarded by clients is the immediate counseling they receive from trained and certified professionals, many who have dealt with cancer and know how to impart tools to navigate the medical system, provide perspective, guidance and hope. Each person finds a place where they can feel at ease, along with compassion and the nurturing wisdom of survivors.

Planned Giving

With your long-term planning, a gift can combine your wish to support the OjaiCARES Cancer Resource Center, with your overall financial, tax, and estate planning goals. Your planned gift gives you a special connection with us now and into the future. You will need OjaiCARES’s tax ID 46-3130611 for planned gifts.

Gifts of Securities

Other than cash, securities (e.g. stock shares, mutual fund shares, bonds) are the most popular asset for funding charitable gifts to the Cancer Resource Center. Publicly traded securities are usually very marketable, have a clear value, and are easily transferred.

Here is some sample wording. An attorney or estate planner can draft the language specific for your wishes if needed.

For Retirees – Avoid Taxes on a Required Minimum Distribution with a Charitable Donation:

Do you still have money to spend to meet your Required Minimum Distribution? (the IRS required amount that must be taken from one’s IRA annually to avoid 50% tax penalty).

Consider supporting OjaiCARES before the end of the year to reduce taxes with a charitable donation. Traditional IRA owners 70½ or older can give up to $100,000 from their IRA directly to charity every year. The qualified charitable distribution amount can count toward your required minimum distribution. At the same time, the money is prevented from becoming taxable income and also helps reduce the amount of Social Security retirement benefits that are deemed taxable, too
